The island of contrasts, and some say the most Greek of all islands.  Here not only will you find exquisite beaches and breathtaking scenery, but a wealth of reminders of the Minoan civilization, probably the most notable being the Palace of Knossos.

The largest and Southernmost of the Greek Islands, Crete can boast the longest summers, so the sun worshippers will not be disappointed, and for those who want to explore the island then a visit to the Samaria Gorge (the longest in Europe) is a must.  Apart from the wonders of Knossos and it's Archaeological Museum, one can also visit Phaistos, in the south of the island where an ancient Palace dating back to 1700 BC has been excavated.  The romantics among you will love the picturesque Lassithi Plain with its numerous white sailed windmills.

The north is the liveliest area, stretching eastwards from Heraklion to Aghios Nikolaos.  Whether you want to visit Heraklion (the very busy modern capital of Crete) and go shopping, or wander down to 'Ag Nik' and arrange a boat trip to Spinalonga island, your time will not be wasted.

In between Heraklion and Aghios Nikolaos are the popular resorts of Malia, Stalis and the bustling Hersonissos, each one offering an atmosphere which is quite unlike anything you may have experienced before.
